You want to get pregnant, but it just doesn't seem to work out? Or you want to be on the safe side and avoid long waiting times? Then beware of heavy metals, because these can (given regular, high exposure) considerably reduce fertility, both in men and women.
Mercury
Mercury is a major disruptive factor in fertility. On the one hand, the heavy metal leads to chaos in the estrogen cycle, on the other it lowers the progesterone level. Both are quite unfavourable for the desire to have children. Also it is unfortunately no myth that women with amalgam fillings are more likely to not ovulate.
Cadmium
This heavy metal also has a negative influence on fertility. In men, it worsens the quantity and quality of sperm. And a striking number of infertile women have high cadmium levels. Cadmium is found in soils that are treated with synthetic phosphate fertilizers and thus enters our bodies through food.
Lead
Like mercury, lead also disturbs the hormonal balance and can cause cycle disorders. Studies have shown that women who gave birth to children with malformations often have elevated levels of lead in their blood. Lead is present in some colors, in some glazes of ceramic vessels or in foods grown near industrial areas (ore smelters or lead processing industries). However, it also occurs in drinking water when the water is connected via lead pipes.
